Drawing for beginners series to begin at KCKCC on Oct. 9

A series of six Drawing for Beginners classes will be offered at Kansas City Kansas Community College starting Tuesday, Oct. 9.

An introduction to drawing for adults or teens aged 16 and over, the class will be held from 6-8 p.m. on consecutive Tuesdays in Room 2160 of the Humanities Building on the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Avenue. The classes will run through Nov. 13.

Instructed by Polly Plain, students will learn how to draw from observation using line and shape to record and interpret reality and develop skills to draw objects in proportion and in perspective working from simple still-life setups and interior.

In addition, there will be instruction in various drawing media including charcoal and graphite. Some homework will be required.   

Participants need to bring paper, pencil and kneaded eraser to the first class Oct. 9.

Other items that will be needed are soft vine charcoal, artist chamois, 18x24 drawing pad, four drawing board clips, pencil sharpener, sandpaper block or sandpaper and X-acto knife with No. 11 blades A sketchbook and 23x26 drawing board are optional.
