Upcoming volunteer opportunities in Wyandotte County

Here are some upcoming volunteer opportunities across Kansas City, Kan., and Wyandotte County: 
  • On June 9th Family Funfest Touch-a-Truck will be happening at the National Agricultural Museum and Hall of Fame in Bonner Springs. Volunteers are needed to help with this unique event. Volunteer shifts are 10:00am to 1:00pm or 12:30pm to 3:30pm. During these shifts volunteers will serve as greeters, monitor the back gate, park cars, serve as event attendants, and runners. The last shift of volunteers will work from 3pm to 5:30pm. These volunteers will help with clean-up the grounds (pick-up trash) and in the buildings.   • Providence Medical Center is looking to recruit volunteers to help at their information desks. Volunteers need to have good people skills and willing to learn a simple computer program. This opportunity is open to youth volunteers over 14 and adults. For more information contact Jordon at 913-596-4195 or go to www.providence-health.org and register on-line.
  • Cross-Lines Community Outreach has a number of group volunteer projects ready for the right volunteer groups. Groups are needed to help sack groceries for the commodity program. Hours are flexible. The second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month, volunteers are needed to help the elderly carry their sacked groceries. A small group is needed on June 8th to prepare and serve lunch at the community annex. This commitment is generally from 9:30am to 1:30pm. In addition, volunteers are needed to help with routine yard work on the grounds at Cross-Lines.   • KCK Organic Teaching Gardens need volunteers to help and maintain the gardens. Volunteers can learn all about organic gardening while help in the garden. It is a great opportunity. If you are interested, please contact Mark at 816-805-6326. Check out www.KCKOrganicTeachingGardens.org.
  • The United Way of Wyandotte County is recruiting volunteers to work at the front desk. Volunteers will answer the phone, greet guests, data entry and general office tasks. For more information or to volunteer, contact Diane at 913-371-3674 or at dhentges@unitedway-wyco.org.
  • ‘Tweens and teens wanting to volunteer this summer can sign up for this eight-week summer break program.  There are a few slots left!  Youth volunteers will have the opportunity to experience what it means to help their community through daily or week long projects with various community-based organizations in the Greater Kansas City area.  Projects usually run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday - Thursday, unless otherwise noted.  This summer program is sponsored by Youth Volunteer Corps of Greater Kansas City.
