KCK chamber honors top businesses

News Release

The 2012 Small Business of the Year award was given to BHC Rhodes by the KCK Chamber at the chamber’s annual Small Business Awards Luncheon at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park today.

The 2012 New Small Business of the Year award was given to Altar Bridal.

BHC Rhodes, in addition to receiving the Small Business of the Year award, is today celebrating the exact date of its founding 20 years ago.  The civil engineering and surveying firm is based in Overland Park with offices in downtown Kansas City, Kan., and Dodge City, Kan.

They have worked on several of the recent high profile projects in Wyandotte County such as Hollywood Casino and Livestrong Sporting Park, Unified Government Street projects and the soon to start “Connex” bus rapid transit project in KCK.

In business since 2010, Altar Bridal provides a diverse selection of designer wedding gowns – from traditional elegance to modern flair – in an open and airy boutique space in Kansas City’s Waldo area.

Owner Dede Palmer is dedicated to helping her clients find the special dress for their special day, even when it means going above and beyond normal expectations of a wedding dress boutique.

In addition to the Awardees, there were four other finalists for the Small Business of the Year award including encompas, KC Presort, LLC, Ochsner Hare & Hare LLC and Village West Discount Liquors.

The other finalists for the New Small Business of the Year award include: Chiusano’s Brick Oven Pizzeria, Dayspring Electric, Inc., hr-haven, inc and Inn on Crescent Lake.

Nominations came from other chamber members, customers, employees or were self nominated.

The KCK Chamber Small Business Awards process starts right after the first of each year.
