Fire causes $100K worth of damage in salvage yard

The Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department battled a fire just after 9 a.m. this morning at 1142 S. 12th Street.

No one was injured in the fire, but over $100,000 worth of damage was done to the scene.

After a fire investigator was called the scene, it was later determined by the KCKFD the fire was an accident.

Crews on the scene within three minutes reported heavy smoke and fire coming from a large metal maintenance building. Crews were informed that a flatbed tow truck was on fire inside the building. Crews were also informed that there were fuel storage tanks inside the building. Crews were able to get water streams between the fire and the fuel storage tanks. Other crews were able to bring the fire under control within 25 minutes. BPU responded to shut off utilities to structure. Fire Investigator responded to the scene. Estimated damage to building and contents $100,000. Fire was determined to be accidental. No injuries were reported.
