Wyandotte County Election Live Blog

By NICK SLOAN, NJSloan212@gmail.com

As I start the live blog, Wyandotte County is getting some election results already.

Pat Pettey has opened up a 67-8 lead on Mario Escobar in total votes in the Kansas Senate Sixth District primary in the Democratic Party.

No results yet from the Mark Gilstrap-Steve Fitzgerald tangle out west quite yet. The Kansas Secretary of State site is here.

I'll keep you updated!

---

UPDATE, 7:52 p.m. - In the Kansas Senate District 10 race that includes a small portion of Wyandotte County, Mary Pilcher-Cook leads fellow Republican Tom Wertz 63-37 percent. One precinct is in there and just about 2,500 votes have been counted. That's a large precinct. Also, the Pettey-Escobar race has just one precinct in.

---

UPDATE, 8:03 p.m. - Here's the link to the Wyandotte County Election Results Website. However, a caveat - the Gilstrap-Fitzgerald race includes Leavenworth County as well, so I'd recommend using the state one for the entire results.

---

UPDATE, 8:18 p.m. - Steve Fitzgerald, with the boosting of Leavenworth County's voters, has opened up a  lead on Mark Gilstrap in District 5. He leads 583 votes to 238 - or 71 to 29 percent. No Wyandotte County results have came in for that race quite yet.

---

UPDATE, 8:28 p.m. - Having looked at the Secretary of State's Website again, it looks as if the totals above is not only from Leavenworth, but the entire amount of results that will come from Leavenworth tonight. Every vote left in District 5 will come from Wyandotte County. On theory, that should be good news for the Wyandotte County native Gilstrap.

---

UPDATE, 8:41 p.m. - According to the Wyandotte County Election Website, there are 4,400 Republican voters out in the Piper area, meaning the margin out in District 5 can be made up with ease if there's a strong showing.

---

UPDATE, 8:49 p.m. - There's something strange going on with either the Kansas Secretary of State's Website or the Leavenworth County results page.

The Kansas Secretary of State's race results say the entire county has been counted for the Gilstrap-Fitzgerald race. Click the image for a larger version.

However, the Leavenworth County Website says their results are not done, but yet have more votes counted. Again, click for a larger version.

Gilstrap is still trailing, but the margin is a bit different. I'll try to contact both the state and Leavenworth County now. More soon.

---

UPDATE, 8:55 p.m. - The results are now a bit more in line. Figures with the timing of my update there. Wyandotte County votes are starting to trickle in.

---

UPDATE, 8:57 p.m. - With 21 percent of precincts reporting, Pat Pettey has a 76-24 percent lead over Mario Escobar. In real-time numbers, that's 160 votes to 43.

---

UPDATE, 9:00 p.m. - Both Websites have the "final" results in Leavenworth County.

Here's the Secretary of State's numbers for Leavenworth County:

Fitzgerald 1,433
Gilstrap 700

Here's the Leavenworth County results from Leavenworth's Website:

Fitzgerald 1,750
Gilstrap, 868

Either way, former Sen. Gilstrap has major ground to make up in Wyandotte County.

---

UPDATE, 9:05 p.m. - Pettey has expanded her lead to 227 votes to 57. Percentage wise, that's 80-to-20.

---

UPDATE, 9:12 p.m. - With two of the KCK precincts coming in for the District 5 race, Gilstrap has made up 18 votes. Percentage wise, Gilstrap is winning 58 percent of the Wyandotte County votes. Fitzgerald won between 65-67 percent in Leavenworth County.

---

UPDATE, 9:20 p.m. - Both the Leavenworth County and state say Fitzgerald won Leavenworth County by the 1,750-868 margin. Fitzgerald won 67 percent of the vote there.

---

UPDATE, 9:24 p.m. - More Wyandotte County votes are in. Pat Pettey now leads 347 to 111 over Mario Escobar down in District 6. Just about 30 percent of the vote is in there.

Meanwhile, out in District 5, Gilstrap is making up some ground on Fitzgerald - but not enough right now. In Wyandotte County, Gilstrap is edging out Fitzgerald 244-171 votes. He's won 58 percent of the KCK vote. However, 47 percent of the KCK precincts are already in. By my count, the total votes are 1,921 to 1,112 in favor of Fitzgerald.

---

UPDATE, 9:44 p.m. - No additional results from Wyandotte County have came in yet.

---

UPDATE, 10:18 p.m. - Like most of Western Wyandotte County, I'm still up awaiting results.
