Beginning Excel and Word offered at KCKCC this fall

Level I courses in both Beginning Word and Beginning Excel will be offered at Kansas City Kansas Community College this fall.

A five-week course in Beginning Excel will be offered each Tuesday beginning Sept. 25 while Beginning Word will be offered each Thursday beginning Sept. 27. Both courses will be followed up by Level II classes to begin in late October and early November.

Larry Cicero will be the instructor for both classes, which will be held from 6-9 p.m. in the Flint Building on the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Avenue.

Beginning Excel will teach the basics about spreadsheets while learning to use Microsoft’s full-featured spreadsheet program that is part of the Microsoft Office 2010 Suite of Programs.

Using a hands-on approach, students will become familiar with basic workbook skills and techniques including creating spreadsheets, working with ranges, creating simple formulas, copying and moving data and other basic spreadsheet tasks.

Beginning Word will provide the basics of word processing while learning Microsoft’s full-featured word processing that is part of Microsoft Office 2012.

Through a hands-on approach, students will become familiar with basic document and work processing through such basic techniques as editing, spelling and grammar checking; using the find and replace feature; and formatting the document.

Participants in both classes are requested to bring a flash drive to the first night of classes.

Cost of each of the five-class series is $75 and includes textbook. However, persons wishing to take the Level II series in either class can pre-register for $125, a $25 savings.

Level II of Beginning Excel will be held Oct. 30-Dec. 4; Level II of Beginning Word will be held Nov. 1-Dec. 6.

Registration can be made in person in the Community Education Building (CEB) on the east side of the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Avenue; by phone with credit card payment at 913-288-7660; or on-line at www.kckcc.edu and clicking on Continuing Education and Fall 2012.
