Beginning, intermediate piano series at KCKCC Sept. 29

A series of 10 beginning and intermediate piano classes will be held at Kansas City Kansas Community College beginning Saturday, Sept. 29.

Beginning Piano will be offered each Saturday from noon-2:30 p.m.; Intermediate Piano from 9 -11:30 a.m.

Taught by Nahyun Kim, both classes will be held in Room 2109 of the Humanities Building on the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Avenue. They will run through Dec. 8 with no classes on Nov. 24.

Beginning Piano is open to anyone high school age and older interested in having fun learning to play the piano.

“All levels from beginner to intermediate are welcome,” said Carla Pestock, Coordinator of Continuing Education. “If you’ve ever wanted to read music, play for your friends and family or if you previously have taken lessons and want to get back into playing, this is the perfect opportunity.”

Instruction will include basic piano proficiency including scales, chords, harmonizing melodies, improvisation, sight reading, building a basic piano repertoire and learning basic music theory.

The required book for the course is Bastien Piano for Adults which can be purchased in the KCKCC Bookstore.

Intermediate Piano is a continuation of the 2012 Spring Beginning Piano class.

Open to anyone who already has some experience playing piano and a basic knowledge of music theory, students will learn greater keyboard proficiency including scales, chords, chord progressions, harmonization of melodies, improvisation and sight reading. In addition, they will develop an intermediate piano repertoire and learn intermediate music skills.

The class will continue using the book from the 2012 Spring semester, Adult Piano Adventures All-In-One Book 1 by Nancy Faber.

New students can purchase the book in the College Bookstore.
Cost of the 10-week series is $109 for Beginning Piano; $125 for Intermediate Piano with a $10 discount to Prime Time members.

Registration can be made in person in the Community Education Building (CEB) on the east side of the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Avenue; by phone with credit card payment at 913-288-7660; or on-line at www.kckcc.edu and clicking on Continuing Education and Fall 2012 schedule.
