Community invited to 38th annual Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast

The Wyandotte County mayors, in cooperation with the Christian Businessmen’s Committee, are hosting the 38th annual Mayors' Prayer Breakfast on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 a.m.

Seating begins at 6:45 a.m. The breakfast buffet and program will be held at the Reardon Civic Center at 500 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan.

Tickets are $20 per person. All ticket reservations must be paid in advance. To purchase tickets, reserve a table of eight, or to inquire about a company sponsorship, please call 913-371-3165.

Carol Levers, Director Of  Kansas City Kansas Public Libraries, will be the guest speaker at the breakfast. Levers, a native of South Africa, began her library career as a volunteer at the West Wyandotte Branch.

Her husband Keith, and their two small children had come to Kansas  in 1989 to seek political asylum.  The library was close by their first apartment and she took her children there frequently.

Little did she know at the time that initial experience would lead to her future career as a community leader and Director Of Libraries of five public libraries and 48 school libraries in Kansas City, Kansas.

With the library system for 23 years, Levers has held other positions She received a Bachelor of Science in Human Management from Park University, and a Master’s in Library Science from Emporia State University.

Carol is a tireless community volunteer, having served as the President of the KCK Women’s Chamber of Commerce for two terms and on the boards of United Ways Study Circles, KCK Area Chamber of Commerce, Children’s TLC of Metro KC, Women’s Assembly of Kansas and Missouri and Kansas City Kansas Community College Endowment Association.

She is a graduate of Wyandotte County Leadership 2000 program.
