The first candidate announced for the executive vice chancellor position at the Kansas University Medical Center is a radiologist at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Norman J. Beauchamp Jr. has been the chairman of the radiology department at the university since 2002. He is also a professor of neurological surgery and a professor of industrial engineering and systems engineering.
Beauchamp earned a medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 1990, and he received a Master of Health Science degree in 1999 from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.
He was a faculty member in the Johns Hopkins radiology department from 1996 until he came to Washington in 2002.
He was president of the University of Washington Physician Practice from 2006 to 2008.
KU released Beauchamp’s name and career information before he met with faculty and staff in a town hall meeting on the KUMC campus today.
He is one of three finalists for the executive vice chancellor position, which is the top job at the medical center.
The names of the other two finalists are scheduled to be announced before they take part in town-hall meetings scheduled for Nov. 15 and Nov. 20.
