A standing room only crowd of more than 50 students, faculty, staff and community members turned out for the Third Annual “Veterans Speak” program at Kansas City Kansas Community College Monday, Nov. 12.
Six veterans (from left), Gary Washington, Air Force; Tim Orr, Army; Scott Bailie, Air Force; Spencer Fenton, Army; Bryan Block, Navy; and Charles Self, Air Force, recounted some of the highlights and experiences of their military careers and took questions from the audience.
Four of the speakers, Washington, Orr, Bailie and Fenton, were on active duty during the Iraqi Freedom campaign. Bailie also served during Desert Shield/Desert Storm and he and Washington were in Enduring Freedom.
Self served at Beale Air Force from 1974-92 where he serviced Lockheed SR-71 “Blackbird” long-range Mach 3+ strategic reconnaissance aircraft while Block served from 1984-89 aboard the destroyer USS Kincaid in the Pacific.
