Four injured after vehicle crashes into apartment building

Four individuals were hurt after a vehicle crashed into an apartment complex at 1700 Meadowlark Court.

The accident happened on Christmas Day at around noon.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with a head injury. Three others inside the car - including two children - were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

No one was inside the apartment building.

Full statement from Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department Battalion Chief Craig Duke: 
Crews on the scene within two minutes reported a vehicle crashing into apartment building. The vehicle was occupied by two adults and two children. Crews treated patients and all were transported to area hospitals. Male driver was transported emergency with head injury all others were transported non emergency with minor injuries.

After patients had been transported, vehicle involved in accident caught fire, necessitating a general alarm dispatch as vehicle was against the apartment building. Responding crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire with damage only to part of the exterior of the building.

Fire did not extend into interior. BPU called to shut off power to affected apartment (unoccupied) $20,000 to car and building. Integrity of building was not affected by damage caused by car. No injuries reported.
