Former Kauffman Chairman to kick off KCKCC business series

Jim McGraw, the former chairman of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Board of Directors, will kick off a series of Business Solution breakfast meetings at Kansas City Kansas Community College Tuesday, Jan. 29.

A former chief operating officer, corporate officer and board member of the pharmaceutical firm of Marion Laboratories, McGraw will present the keynote address at an 8 a.m. breakfast meeting in Room 3632 of the Flint Building on the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Avenue.

“A leading voice for quality education, entrepreneurism and free enterprise, Jim was there with Mr. Kauffman when Marion Labs became the hottest stock on Wall Street and made millionaires out of assembly line workers and secretaries,” said Bill Musgrave, assistant to McGraw.

The kickoff breakfast is the first of five monthly breakfast meetings designed to help further economic expansion in Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties.

“The series will allow area entrepreneurs and businesses to collaborate, learn and grow,” says Jay Matlack, KCKCC Workforce Development Coordinator “We’ll have two or three experts presenting on each of the topics at each of the breakfast sessions.”

The focus for the opening breakfast will be on “Skills for Greater Sales Success.” Cost of the final four breakfast meetings is $10 each or $30 for all four.

The final four meetings to be held in Room 3632 from 8-9:30 a.m.:

Feb. 26 – Creating a global perspective for entrepreneurs. Global intelligence and techniques for business to become globally competitive.

March 26 – Contingency planning. Simple techniques to help prepare for the unexpected.

April 5 – Innovation Summit. Local entrepreneurs will pitch their newest ideas to venture capitalists and investors. 

May 14 – Mobile Marketing. Maximize your mobile device through a comprehensive understanding of the rapidly evolving landscape of mobile marketing.

The series is developed and created by KCKCC Workforce Development in conjunction with the Wyandotte Economic Development Council, KCK Chamber of Commerce, Unified Government of KCK-Wyandotte County, Leavenworth-Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce and Leavenworth County Development Corporation.
