AG Schmidt seeks mediation of school finance dispute

Kansas Attorney General's Office

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt today asked the Kansas Supreme Court to stay the order of a three-judge panel that ruled parts of the school finance law unconstitutional and also requested the Supreme Court to order the State and the plaintiff school districts into mediation.

The attorney general released the following statement:

“Today, our office has filed with the Kansas Supreme Court a Motion to Stay the Three-Judge Panel’s school finance ruling pending the resolution of all issues before the Kansas Supreme Court. Simultaneously we have filed a Motion for Order of Mediation asking the Court to appoint a mediator to conduct discussions with the parties to see if the case can be resolved by mutual agreement.”
