KCKCC names three AD finalists

The three finalists for the position of Director of Athletics at Kansas City Kansas Community College will be presented at a public College Community Forum Tuesday, Feb. 19.

The finalists – Matt Goldbeck and Valerie Stambersky from the current athletic staff and Judson University Athletic Director Anthony (Tony) Tompkins – will participate in the forum to be held at 1 p.m. in Room 2705 on the lower level of the Nursing building at the north end of the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Avenue.

The finalists will each make 15 minute individual presentations on their visions for the KCKCC Athletic Department followed by a 15-minute question and answer period.

Matt Goldbeck will be the first at 1 p.m. followed by Valerie Stambersky at 1:45 p.m. and Tony Tompkins at 2:30 p.m. A summary of each of the candidate’s background:

MATT GOLDBECK – An Assistant Baseball Coach and Gym Supervisor at KCKCC from June 1998, to the present, his duties include scheduling of baseball games and transportation; assisting with fundraising activities and maintenance of the baseball field and coordination of gym usage.  He has served as game day administrator at various athletic events.  In addition, he has also worked as a Personal Trainer at the KCKCC Wellness Center and an Adjunct Instructor for KCKCC. In the community, he has coached and served as the General Manager of a Ban Johnson team and coached a high school American Legion team.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Management of Recreation and Athletic Facilities from Ottawa University of Kansas and a Master of Arts Degree from Central Michigan University.

VALERIE STAMBERSKY – Currently serving in the capacity of the Interim Director of Athletics, Stambersky has been the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at KCKCC for 14 years.  In nine of the past 14 years, her team has been ranked in the top 25 in the nation in team GPA, and she has never had an academically ineligible player. She is a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Mrs. Stambersky holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Correctional Administration from Ferris State University, where she was the team captain for the women’s basketball team.She is an adjunct instructor at KCKCC teaching Introduction to Criminology and Freshman Orientation.

ANTHONY TOMPKINS – The Athletic Director at Judson University in Elgin, Ill., Tompkins supervises 15 sports programs with more than 330 student athletes. His prior positions include Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Judson University and coach of a top NAIA basketball program at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis. A National Rater for NAIA II men’s basketball, he has received the honor of Coach of the Year for the American Midwest Conference and at Judson University. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education from Missouri Baptist University and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.
