Reardon, Marinovich endorse Holland

If the past two mayors of Wyandotte County have their way, Unified Government Commissioner Mark Holland will become the new mayor later this spring.

Current Unified Government Mayor/CEO Joe Reardon and former UG Mayor/CEO Carol Marinovich publicly endorsed Holland's candidacy this afternoon in Kansas City, Kan.

"I’ve spent a lot of time with Mark and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed serving with him on the Commission," Reardon said. "I know he has a strong vision for Wyandotte County and understands that collaboration, hard work and persistence will keep Wyandotte County moving forward on the path that our residents, businesses and leaders have forged during the past 16 years."

Reardon announced last month that he would not be seeking a third term as mayor.

Since then, Holland and four other candidates - fellow commissioners Ann Murguia and Nathan Barnes, along with Cordell Meeks III and Janice Witt - have ran campaigns to try and replace him.

Marinovich, who served as mayor from 1995-2005, said Holland is the right person to continue the economic momentum in Wyandotte County over the next four years.

"We've seen an expanded economic development base, increased amenities and services for residents and a more efficient and effective local government," she said. "What Wyandotte County needs now is a mayor who can build upon that success and continue to move the county forward for all residents."
