Alcohol may have played a role in Thursday morning shooting

The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department is investigating a homicide on the 3100 Block of S. 63rd Street.

Officers responded to the area on reports of a shooting at around 4:30 a.m. When arriving on the scene, they discovered a white male in his 20's had been shot.

He later died at the scene. According to the KCK Police Department, alcohol may have played a role in the shooting.

News release:
On 03/07/2013 at approximately 0030 hours, the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department responded to the 3100 block of South 63rd St. on reports of a shooting. Upon arrival officers located a white male, in his 20’s, suffering from a gunshot wound, inside the residence. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

The initial investigation indicates that during a small gathering at the residence a disturbance occurred and escalated into gunfire. Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the incident. A white male is being interviewed as a person of interest.

The identity of the victim will not be released pending positive identification and family notification.
