Former Kansas Sen. Mark Gilstrap announced Saturday that he is considering applying for the now vacant Unified Government Commission At-Large seat.

The seat, which was the former commission seat of Unified Government Mayor/CEO Mark Holland, is vacant after Holland's victory in the mayoral race.

“I am tickled to death that some people in the community are encouraging me to apply for the open seat,” Gilstrap said. “I have 31 years of financial experience with City/County Government and 12 years as a Kansas State Senator. I  helped to get the Speedway, the Legends and I cast the deciding vote for the Hollywood Casino.”

The appointment will be for two years.
