Sumner Academy has been ranked #1 in the State of Kansas among schools in a Washington Post study.

In a list named "America's Most Challenging Schools," the Wyandotte County school edged out Blue Valley North as the state's top school.

The study uses a formula that takes the combined total of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education exams taken by the school's students divided by the number of seniors who graduated from the school.

Sumner Academy was one of eight schools from Kansas to make the list.

The other schools were Blue Valley North, Shawnee Mission East, Blue Valley, Blue Valley West, Blue Valley Northwest, Manhattan and Shawnee Mission South.
