BPU issues "Precautionary Boil Water Notice" for small part of KCK

The Board of Public Utilities is urging Kansas City, Kan., residents who live  in the area bounded by north of County Line Road and South of Hagemann Street and East of 59th Street and West of 53rd Street to boil their water.

BPU says it detected quality taste and odor issues in the water near the area - and because of that - has issued a "Precautionary Boil Water Notice."

It will remain in effect until BPU performs additional water tests to ensure the safety of the water.

Statement from BPU:
Special notice to residents of Kansas City, Kansas Living in the area bounded by north of County Line Road and South of Hagemann Street and East of 59th Street and West of 53rd Street.

We are experiencing water quality taste and odor issues in the area identified located north of County Line Road and South of Hagemann Street and East of 59th Street and West of 53rd Street. We believe this is a result of high fire flow rates in the area.

Therefore, as a precaution, we advise that all water used for drinking; cooking; making ice; brushing teeth or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative bottled water may be used.

This “Precautionary Boil Water Notice” will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink
