Five candidates have filed for vacant seat, deadline Friday

By NICK SLOAN, nick@kansascitykansan.com

There are less than four days left to file for the vacant Unified Government Board of Commissioners' At-Large seat.

And so far, five candidates have chosen to do so - and all five of them have familiar names.

Two former Kansas state senators - Mark Gilstrap and Kelly Kultala - have filed for the seat that was left vacant after Unified Government Mayor/CEO Mark Holland was elected to his new position.

Local businessman Don Budd, Jr., has also filed - along with two local church pastors: Robert L. Milan Jr., and Jarvis Collier.

Collier was defeated in this spring's election by Unified Government Commission Mike Kane.

Think you can do better than the five candidates already in the race?

You have until 5 p.m. this Friday to file.
