Padgett’s 900th RBI leads KC to victory

Four RBIs from Matt Padgett, including the 900th in his career, powered the Kansas City T-Bones over the Quebec City Capitales, 9-4, in front of 7,286 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Saturday night.

Padgett entered the game with 20 RBIs, second-best in the American Association to Lincoln’s Ian Gac, who took 23 into the Saltdogs’ contest against the Sioux City Explorers on Saturday. A two-run home run to left field in the fifth and a two-run double in the seventh wrapped up the night for Padgett.

Kansas City’s bats turned on in the fourth inning on a lead-off home run to dead center field from Jairo Perez, his sixth. Devin Goodwin added a leadoff triple in the fifth as the first three batters of the inning came in to score prior to Padgett’s blast.

Starter Aaron Meade (3-1) cruised through the first five innings, not allowing a hit until the leadoff batter in the fifth.

Quebec City’s third time through the lineup caused Meade problems, as they scored four runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Dustin Loggins (1) came on in the seventh in relief and kept Quebec off the board while giving up two hits over three innings.

Jeff Duda (2-1) was roughed up in his start for the Capitales, giving up six runs on eight hits in five innings. The loss ended Quebec City’s eight-game winning streak and marks their first loss against a team from American Association in 2013.

The rubber match between Kansas City and Quebec City begins at 5:05 on Sunday evening. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
