Perez homer for T-Bones halts pitching duel

Kansas City’s two out, sixth-inning rally, capped by Jairo Perez, was enough to give Kansas City a 2-0 win over Sioux City on Wednesday afternoon in front of 6,293 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

A pitcher’s duel into the bottom of the sixth, Kansas City starter Eric Gonzalez – making his T-Bones debut – allowed just three hits through 5 2/3 innings. Dan Jurik (1-2), the Sioux City starter, held the T-Bones to one hit and only two baserunners through 5 2/3 innings.

The T-Bones rallied in the sixth inning with a Felix Molina two-out single to right, followed by a homer over the left-field wall by Jairo Perez, which gave the T-Bones a decisive 2-0 lead.

“I think that was a great pitchers’ duel that was going to take just one hit for the win,” said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. “We happened to get the big hit when Perez was able to pull the inside pitch into a strong wind.”

Dustin Loggins (1-0) came in for Gonzalez and got the win. Jhonny Montoya, who pitched the ninth, recorded his sixth save of the season.

The T-Bones and Explorers finish the four-game series on Thursday night at 7:05. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
