Errors bog down T-Bones against Boulders

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Five Kansas City errors resulted in five unearned runs as the Rockland Boulders beat the T-Bones 7-5 in an interleague game on Monday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

With Kansas City leading 3-0, Rockland scored four runs (three unearned) in the third after sending nine to the plate in an inning that included seven consecutive batters reaching base and two T-Bones errors. Then, in the fourth, back-to-back errors by starter Shaun Garceau and second baseman Jairo Perez resulted in another run.

In the eighth, with the score tied at 5-5, Matt Nandin and Donnie Webb scored the go-ahead runs for Rockland, thanks in part to an error by left fielder Justin Bass.

“Those five errors killed us, but especially the first four,” said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. “Obviously they resulted in runs, but as importantly, Shaun had to throw more pitches. He was in a rhythm as the game went on, but because of the errors and needing to throw more pitches, he had to leave the game earlier than he might have otherwise.”

Garceau (5-9) left with two outs and runners at first and third in the sixth. He gave up nine hits and five runs (four unearned), to go with five strikeouts and one walk.

Behind Joey Gathright’s three-for-four night and Trevor Coleman’s third home run of the season, Kansas City scored in each of the first four innings against starter Bobby Blevins (9-8).

The T-Bones (36-52) and Boulders (43-43) continue their three-game series Tuesday night at 7:05 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
