FARGO, N.D. – The Kansas City T-Bones started strong, but Fargo finished stronger in a 5-4 opening series loss for the T-Bones on Friday night.

The Kansas City offense started hot in the opening frame, scoring four runs on four hits. In the inning Justin Bass and Jairo Perez singled, and Kennard Jones walked, which loaded the bases against starter Brian Ernst.

Trevor Coleman then launched a bases-clearing double. The T-Bones next hitter, Brandon Jones, drove in Coleman with a single.

The RedHawks countered, though, with a four-run fourth inning off Kansas City starting pitcher Ethan Cole (0-7). The big hits in the inning came off the bats of Fargo power hitters Nic Jackson, who hit a solo home run, and Tim Alberts, who tied the game with a three-run homer.

The RedHawks took the lead for good with an RBI single from Jeremiah Piepkorn in the fifth inning.

Ernst (6-2), after his rough first inning, finished with seven solid innings, retiring 20 of the final 21 batters he faced.

The T-Bones (37-54) and RedHawks (58-33) will continue their three-game series Saturday night at 6 p.m. in Fargo, N.D.
