Sporting KC Weekly Update: August 1, 2013

SPORTING KC HOSTS THE NEW YORK RED BULLS ON SATURDAY
Sporting Kansas City hosts the New York Red Bulls on Saturday at Sporting Park. The match features the top two teams in the Eastern Conference, separated by just one point in the standings. The match will be nationally broadcast on the NBC Sports Network at 5:30 p.m. CT. Fans can listen to the match live on Sports Radio 810 WHB (English) and La Gran D 1340 AM (Spanish).

The Red Bulls (10-7-5) are led by 2013 MLS All-Star Thierry Henry, whose seven goals and five assists are most on the team. Sporting Kansas City's Aurelien Collin, Matt Besler and Graham Zusi joined Henry for the 2013 AT&T MLS All-Star Game against AS Roma at Sporting Park on Wednesday night. The Major League Soccer player vote determined the inactive roster, which included the addition of New York's Jamison Olave.

Sporting KC earned a 1-0 victory in the two clubs first meeting of 2013, courtesy of a Collin finish. A limited number of tickets to the match are still available online at Ticketmaster.com or at the Sporting Park Box Offices. 

SPORTING PARK HOSTS THE 2013 AT&T MLS ALL-STAR GAME
The 2013 AT&T MLS All-Star Game welcomed a record-breaking crowd of 21,175 viewers to Sporting Park on Wednesday. The MLS All-Stars fell 3-1 to their Serie A competitor AS Roma. Omar Gonzalez notched the lone goal for the MLS All-Stars in second-half stoppage time, heading home a free kick by Vancouver's Camilo in second-half stoppage time.

Sporting Kansas City's Matt Besler, Aurelien Collin and Graham Zusi started the match for the MLS All-Stars, the most representatives from one club in the starting XI. SPORTING KC OPENS CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE NEXT WEEK
Sporting Kansas City will begin the group stage of the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League next week. Sporting KC will open up the tournament with road matches against Real EstelĂ­ FC on Wednesday, August 7 and CD Olimpia on Tuesday, August 27. They will then close out the group stage with home matches against Real EstelĂ­ on September 17 and Olimpia on October 2.

Tickets for the decisive two home games in the CONCACAF Champions League group stage are on sale now. These tickets can be secured online at Ticketmaster.com or at the Sporting Park Box Offices.

MLS ALL-STAR WEEK TAKES OVER KANSAS CITY
In conjunction with the 2013 AT&T MLS All-Star Game were five days of festivities featuring KC landmarks. Among some of the most notable events were a pair of free concerts featuring popular artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on Monday night and the Silversun Pickups on Tuesday.

Also of note was the Volkswagen 5K Jersey Run last Sunday and two watch parties, one for Sporting Kansas City's match against the Montreal Impact and the other for the United States Men's National Team. Both watch parties were held at the Kansas City Power and Light District.

Aurelien Collin hosted a fashion on Tuesday night at the Kansas City Power and Light District in downtown Kansas City, Mo. Collin unveiled his new clothing line AC78.

COMMUNITY APPEARANCES SURROUNDING MLS ALL-STAR
Aurelien Collin appeared at the Kansas Sampler Oak Park location on Monday, July 29 to sign autographs and mingle with fans. MLS All-Stars Matt Besler, Brad Davis and Corey Ashe attended the Brush Creek Kick at Theis Park on Monday. The All-Stars attempted to kick a soccer ball from one side of the creek to a goal located on the other side of the creek. Sporting Kansas City players Dom Dwyer, Seth Sinovic, Oriol Rosell and Soony Saad also participated in the challenge along with Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri Sly James. Monday evening C.J. Sapong and Kevin Ellis appeared at Johnny's Tavern in the Power & Light District. MLS WORKS hosted the MLS All-Star service project at Wyandotte High School on Tuesday. Aurelien Collin, Landon Donovan, Thierry Henry, Will Johnson, Matt Besler and Jack McBean all attended the unveiling of two new futsal courts at Wyandotte High School. MLS Commissioner Don Garber and Mayor of Kansas City, Kan., Mark Holland also attended the event.

Chance Myers and Benny Feilhaber made their way to the Sprint store in the Kansas City Power & Light District to hang out with some of their fans on Tuesday. Myers made another appearance on Wednesday to the Children's Mercy Hospital to visit the cancer patients. Myers was joined by Seth Sinovic on Wednesday.

Soccer Celebration was held from 3:30-8 p.m. CT at the Nebraska Furniture Mart parking lots and was open to all fans prior to Wednesday's 2013 AT&T MLS All-Star Game. Sporting Kansas City's Teal Bunbury, Chance Myers, Peterson Joseph, Mechack Jerome, Dom Dwyer, Kei Kamara, Oriol Rosell, Seth Sinovic, Benny Feilhaber and Jimmy Nielsen all made appearances.

TICKETS ON SALE FOR ALL SPORTING KC HOME MATCHES IN 2013
Sporting KC announced that individual tickets for the final six MLS home matches are on sale now. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com or at the Sporting Park Box Offices.

SINGLE-DAY TICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR FLATLANDS FESTIVAL
Single-day tickets for the Flatlands Country Music Festival at Sporting Park from Sept. 12-14 are on sale to the general public, starting as low as $59 each. The new country music and camping festival, presented by Marquee Events and Sporting Club, will feature performances from several of the most popular artists in country music over three days.

Luke Bryan, Darius Rucker, Rodney Atkins, Thompson Square and Kevin Fowler will perform on Friday, Sept. 13. Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Kellie Pickler, Love and Theft, and JT Hodges will then take the stage on Sat., Sept. 14.

SPORTING KC SEASON TICKETS SOLD OUT FOR 2013 SEASON
Sporting Kansas City announced that the club's allotment of 14,000 season tickets for the 2013 season at Sporting Park are sold out. Prospective Season Ticket Members may join the club's Season Ticket Member waiting list by placing a $50 non-refundable deposit per season ticket request.

Sporting Kansas City currently leads all MLS teams in the total number of new Season Ticket Members for 2013 and have averaged over a 90% Season Ticket Member renewal rate for the last three seasons.

Sporting Kansas City are also selling five-game 'Pick Plans.' All plans include the five Sporting KC matches of the buyer's choice, including U.S. Open Cup, CONCACAF Champions League or any of the remaining MLS regular season games.

SPORTING PARK TO HOST U.S. MNT IN WORLD CUP QUALIFIER
Sporting Park will host the U.S. Men's National Team on Oct. 11 in the team's final home qualifying match for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The United States returns to Sporting Park to play Jamaica, live on the ESPN family, WatchESPN and UniMas at 8 p.m. CT. Ticket information will be released at a later date.

Sporting Park, home to Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City, will host the U.S. Men's National Team for the third time since opening in June 2011. The state-of-the-art, $200+ million venue will also host the 2013 MLS All-Star Game on July 31.
