First KCKCC alumni baseball game to be held next weekend

The first Kansas City Kansas Community College Alumni Baseball Weekend in 30 years will be held at the College’s new baseball complex Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12.

“It’s something we’re really looking forward to. There’s a lot of guys I haven’t seen in a lot of years,” said Steve Burleson, who is beginning his 35th season as Blue Devil head coach.

Coaches will be available Friday from 1-7 p.m. for tours of the new facility.

“There may be alumni coming from out of town who may want to come by Friday afternoon,” said Burleson.

Activities will open Saturday with an open house for the public from 8-10 a.m. followed by batting practice for former Blue Devil players from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Pre-game ceremonies and introductions will be held starting at 11:30 a.m. with the first pitch of the Alumni Game scheduled for noon.

“If there’s an abundance of alumni, we’ll split them into two teams for the game,” said Burleson. “If not, the alumni will play against this year’s Blue Devil team.”

Burleson said the number of innings will be determined by the number of alumni attending.

“We’ll play as many innings as needed to give every alumni player a chance to play on our outstanding new baseball field,” said Burleson.
