Former Bishop Ward basketball star earns preseason conference honors


KANSAS CITY, KAN. ------ Alaska Anchorage senior and former Bishop Ward basketball player Kylie Burns was among 15 players named Friday to the 2013-14 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Preseason All-Conference Team.

A 5-9 forward, Burns is UAA’s leading returning scorer at 10.6 points per game, and ranked sixth in the GNAC in rebounding last year with 7.3 rpg. The Kansas City, Kan. (Bishop Ward HS) product also ranked fifth in the league with 33.4 minutes per game, scoring double figures on 13 occasions.

The Seawolves’ only senior, Burns enters her final season with UAA career top-20 ranks in three-pointers made (15th, 68) and free-throw percentage (12th, .736), and is a two-time All-GNAC Academic Team honoree.

The season begins with a homecoming trip for Burns when UAA takes on Div. I Kansas State in an exhibition Nov. 1 in Manhattan, Kan.

The Seawolves make their regular-season, home debut Nov. 9 against Western New Mexico at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
