Health care reform information session tonight

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- The Unified Government and Kansas Insurance Department will be holding an information session about the health care reform law tonight.

WHAT: Mayor Mark Holland will host staff from the Kansas Insurance Department Tuesday night for an informational meeting about the new Health Insurance Marketplace. This is their last stop in a series of statewide public events.

WHO: This event is open to the public.             

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was enacted into law in 2010. The law addresses and attempts to fix problems in the current American health care system including the cost and quality of care and gaps in insurance coverage. Open enrollment started on October 1, 2013 and does not apply to those already signed up with Medicare.

The health insurance exchange is available at www.healthcare.gov. Individuals and small businesses can use this online marketplace to apply for health coverage, compare options, and enroll in a plan in one application.
