13-year-old charged with bringing gun to Turner Middle School

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- A 13-year-old female has been charged after bringing a firearm to Turner Middle School earlier this week.

The teenager has been charged with one count of criminal use of a weapon for being under 18 and for possessing a hand-gun.

She made her first appearance in court today and she's been ordered to juvenile detention.

Today, District Attorney Jerome A. Gorman filed charges in connection with a firearm being taken into Turner Middle School on October 30, 2013.

A 13 year old juvenile female was charged with one count of criminal use of a weapon for being under 18 and possessing a handgun.  The charge is a class A misdemeanor.  The juvenile made a first appearance in court today.  She was ordered held in juvenile detention pending further proceedings.

The official file, which includes the juvenile’s name, was ordered closed to the public by the Wyandotte County District Court because its release was determined to be not in the best interest of the juvenile.  This order is authorized by statute where the juvenile is under 14 years of age.
