KCKCC routs No. 13 Butler, bids for National Tourney return Saturday

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- Kansas City Kansas Community College prepped for Saturday’s Region VI volleyball playoffs Tuesday with a three-set rout of No. 13 ranked Butler County.

It was the third straight win for Lady Blue Devils (20-10), who open regional play against Highland Saturday at 11 a.m. at Johnson County Community College.

Ranked No. 3 nationally, JCCC (26-6) will meet Allen County (23-15) in Saturday’s other semifinal at 9 a.m. with the championship game to start one hour after the conclusion of the KCKCC-Highland showdown. KCKCC will be trying for its second straight trip to the national tournament.

The straight set win over Butler County (25-17. 25-22, 25-20) was KCKCC’s second of the season over the 13th ranked Grizzlies (20-8), who will take on No. 20 Neosho County (27-7) in first round regional action at Cowley Saturday.

The No. 1 ranked Division II team in the nation, Cowley (29-4) will face Fort Scott (19-17) in the other final.
