UG approves expansion for PQ Corporation

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- The expansion plans for the PQ Corporation plant at 1700 Kansas Ave. were formally approved by the Unified Government at Thursday night's commissioners meeting.

The plan calls for a $219 million capital investment in the area.

Expansion of the plant will create 33 new jobs, adding to the total of 88 employees it already has.

PQ Corporation and the Unified Government agreed to a 10-year, 75 percent tax abatement on the expansion.

Based in Pennsylvania, PQ Corporation manufactures silicate and zeolite technology. It has done business in Kansas City, Kan., for nearly 100 years.
