Kansas House blocks funding for proposed parole center

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- The Kansas House of Representatives successfully blocked funding for the proposed relocation of a Kansas parole office in downtown Kansas City, Kan.

Last week, the Unified Government's Board of Commissioners approved a resolution that opposed the relocation, which places a parole office within 1,000 feet of the Pandarama Preschool.

More from The Topeka Capital Journal:
The amendment directed the Kansas Department of Corrections to forgo expenditures in the current state fiscal year on purchase or lease of property for operation of a parole office within 1,000 feet of a child care business.

While the measure was broadly worded, advocates were intent of stalling relocation of the state parole office serving Kansas City, Kan., to a building approximately 10 feet from the Pandarama preschool.
