KCK emergency responder, patient injured after falling from ambulance

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- A Kansas City, Kan., emergency personnel worker was injured after a medical patient tried to escape from an ambulance.

According to the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department, an EMS unit responded to a medical call Sunday afternoon on the 2300 Block of Birch Drive.

When the EMS unit was on its way to St. Luke's on the Plaza, the man attempted to escape from the vehicle on 43rd and Jefferson Street.

After successfully opening the door of the EMS vehicle, both the medical patient and a member of the KCK response team fell out of the ambulance while it was parked on the street.

A member of the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department assisted in restraining the patient, who was later transferred to the hospital.

The personnel member suffered a minor abrasion to the knee and was later released.
