RadioShack to close 1,100 stores; fate of KCK store unknown

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- RadioShack will be closing 1,100 stores after sales tumbled by nearly 20 percent during the holiday season.

It's unknown if the Kansas City, Kan., store located on 77th and State Avenue, will be one of the stores closing.

"Our focus on the brand, our operations, and the in-store experience has been unfolding in parallel with a strategic review of our store footprint," said RadioShack CEO Joseph C. Magnacca. "Over the past few months, we have undertaken a comprehensive review of our portfolio from many angles – location, area demographics, lease life and financial performance – in order to consolidate our store base into fewer locations while maintaining a strong presence in each market."

The closings will leave RadioShack with 4,000 stores nationwide and 900 dealer franchise locations.
