Long ball lifts T-Bones past Saints

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A trio of home runs aided the T-Bones in a 9-4 win over St. Paul in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader in CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Due to rain, Friday night’s game was suspended after the Saints went in order in the top of the first. The two teams resumed play in a seven-inning game Saturday afternoon.

T.J. Mittelstaedt started the day off with a bang, blasting a solo home run over the left-field wall off the second pitch of the game. Following the home run, Danny Richar doubled and Matt Padgett worked a walk, which set up Ray Sadler for a three-run homer en route to a five run first inning.

After batting through the lineup in the first the T-Bones tacked on another run in the second when Mittelstaedt launched a leadoff home run over the right-field wall, giving Kansas City a 6-0 lead.

The Saints scored one in the third and three in the fourth but it was too little too late after the early offensive surge by Kansas City.

Patrick Mincey earned his second win with the T-Bones and his fourth on the year. He tossed a scoreless inning in relief, giving up one hit and striking out two. Derek Loera notched his first save after throwing two scoreless innings.

Game two of Saturday’s doubleheader is expected to begin approximately 8:45 p.m.
