KCKCC apartment fire causes $300,000 worth of damage

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- No one was injured after a fire happened at 7300 State Avenue on Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters reported to the Kansas City Kansas Community College apartment complex at the location shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The fire caused about $300,000 worth of damage to the complex.

According to Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department Deputy Chief Craig Duke, the fire was located at the rear of the 24-unit apartment building at KCKCC.

"Fire was on the upper floors and crews ventilated roof to control entry into building," Duke said. "Crews located heavy fire at one apartment that had spread to other units. Fire was under control within one hour. BPU responded to shut off utilities to building."

Duke said 50 student-athletes were displaced because of the fire. No word on what caused the fire.

It remains under investigation.
