Three Bonner Springs band students honored by Kansas Music Educators Association


BONNER SPRINGS, KAN. ----- Three Bonner Springs High School band members received one of the highest honors a high school musician can achieve when they were selected as members of the Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) 1A-4A All-State Band.

The band members selected are Jacob Dobbs, snare drum; Lucy Florez, mallets; and Hannah Martin, clarinet.

Jacob Dobbs is a senior percussionist and the son of Skip and Wendy Dobbs.  In addition to being selected to the All-State band, Jacob is the drum line section leader (captain) and assists with the eighth grade band as an aide.  He plans to attend K-State next year to major in biochemical engineering.


Lucy Florez is a junior percussionist and the daughter of James and Laura Florez.  Lucy also performs with the high school drum line and is a fine vocalist and pianist.

Hannah Martin is a junior clarinetist and the daughter of Deb and John Martin.  In addition to playing clarinet and E-flat clarinet in the band, Hannah also led the Pride of Wyandotte County as a drum major for the past two marching seasons.

Jacob, Lucy and Hannah will perform with the All-State Band at the KMEA State Music Convention on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 3pm.

The performance will be in the Century II auditorium in Wichita.
