Asbestos removal beginning at Indian Springs

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- For years, residents in Wyandotte County have long awaited progress of a potential development in the Indian Springs area.

It appears the first baby-step has been taken.

Unified Government Mayor/CEO Mark Holland announced at his State of the Government Address that asbestos removal has started inside the old mall.

No official project was announced, but the UG is working with Lane 4 Development concerning the location, Holland said.

Holland said the goal is to create something that will be of "highest and best use" for the Wyandotte County community.

"(Almost) every closed mall has now closed," Holland said. "The outdoor malls are the wave of the next generation. Turning Indian Springs into something productive is a high priority."

Holland said a complete transformation or even a tear down is possible for the site.
