Overland Park pharmacy technician sentenced for diverting prescription drugs

An Overland Park man has been sentenced to two years federal probation for diverting prescription drugs, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said today.

Waqas Iqbal Chowdhry, 26, Overland Park, Kan., pleaded guilty to a federal felony charge of obtaining prescription drugs by fraud.

In his plea, he admitted that from April 2011 to October 2011 while working as a pharmacy technician at Costco Pharmacy, 12221 Blue Valley Parkway in Overland Park, he stole prescription drugs.

He stole more than 500 tablets of Hydrocodone, a Schedule II controlled substance, and approximately 200 tablets of Lorazepam, a Schedule IV controlled substance. He falsified the store’s written inventories in an attempt to hide the thefts.

Grissom commended the Drug Enforcement Administration and Assistant U.S. Attorney Tanya Treadway for their work on the case.
