Sumner Academy wins 4A forensics state title

The Sumner Academy forensics team earned a state title over the weekend.

The Sabres won the 4A state forensics championship, their second overall and their first since 1998.

Sumner Academy's debaters used a strong finish beginning in round three. After scoring 56 and 58 points in the opening two rounds, the Sabres scored 67 points in round three, 70 in the semfinals and 83 in the finals to win going away by 70 points.

Tonganoxie finished in second place.

Among other local schools, Piper finished 9th in the state.
