Classes for kids in vehicle engineering at KCKCC this October

Classes in vehicle engineering for elementary and middle school boys and girls will be offered in October at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Four-week Junior Vehicle Engineering classes for boys and girls in the first through third grades will be held each Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. beginning Oct. 2 and running through Oct. 23 while Vehicle Engineering for students in the fourth through eighth grades will be held Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. beginning Oct. 4 through Oct. 25.

Instructed by Joe Gilman, all of the classes will be held in the Conference Center adjacent to the Campus Lake at the south end of the campus at 7250 State Avenue.

Students in Junior Engineering will creatively build and modify different vehicles including everyday vehicles, concept cars, construction machines and more using unique LEGO kits.

Concepts covered will include basic engineering principles, friction, forces, motion and aerodynamics, problem solving and communication skills.

Vehicle Engineering students will build up to 13 different motorized vehicles capped off with a final project using LEGO kits.
