Painted Hills closed until spring for major upgrade

Painted Hills is getting a major facelift which is necessitating closing the course until next spring.

“Weather permitting, we plan on re-opening in May or June of 2013,” said Director of Operations Steve Price. The major changes include:
  • The remodeling of all tee complexes and conversion to zoysia grass of all tee tops.
  • Adding a fourth tee box so each hole has both senior and forward tees.
  • Rebuilding of greens on 10 original holes unaffected when the course was first remodeled in 1993-94. Those holes are Nos. 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 18.
  • All fairways will be reshaped and all converted to a new drought-resistant blue grass.
Price said that the major construction will not affect banquet facilities, which will remain open as usual.

The reconstruction project is the second under the ownership of Marty Streiff. Eight new holes were constructed under Streiff’s ownership in 1993-94.

Streiff sold the course in 2004 and then repurchased it this spring.

In addition to Painted Hills, Streiff owns Falcon Lakes Golf Club in Basehor and Royal Meadows Golf Club east of the Truman Sports Complex in Kansas City, Mo., and manages Stone Canyon Golf Club in Independence.

Progress on the reconstruction can be followed on-line at www.paintedhillsgolfclub.com or on Facebook.
