The long-time women’s basketball coach at Kansas City Kansas Community College, Valarie Stambersky, has been named interim Athletic Director.
Stambersky takes over as interim director replacing Dan Pratt, who is retiring after 14 years in the position Dec. 1.
The College also announced it is beginning a search to fill the position on a full-time basis and is accepting applications for the position through Dec. 31.
Graduating with distinction with a BA in Criminal Justice from Ferris State in 1998, she graduated with highest distinction from Ferris State with a Master’s Degree in Correctional Administration IN 1999.
A native of Salem, Ohio, Stambersky won just about every honor possible as a high school senior. Averaging 19.3 points per game, she was first team all-conference and all-district, conference, county and district player of the year and first team all-state and state co-player of the year.
While at Ferris State, Stambersky was a four-year starter and co-captain for three years. A three-time Great Lakes Inter Athletic Conference All-Academic selection, she was also a two-year all-conference selection, was team MVP as both a junior and senior and was selected to the GTE All-Academic Region Team as a senior.
She and her husband, KCKCC assistant baseball coach Damian Stambersky, have a son, Taylor, and a daughter, Tyler.
