KCKCC to offer American Sign Language class starting January 17

A course in America Sign Language will be offered this Spring Semester at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

A three-hour course that can be taken either for credit or non-credit, American Sign Language I will be held each Thursday from 6-9 p.m. in Room 3203 of the Science Building beginning Jan. 17 and running through May 14.

Persons wishing to take the course for credit must contact the KCKCC Admissions and Records office at 913-288-7339.

Instructed by Dana Boggs, the course is designed to give students a basic foundation in the language of sign and includes an examination of the history of signs, linguistic principles, finger spelling, manual alphabet and a vocabulary of at least 364 signs.

A textbook is optional and is available at the KCKCC Bookstore.

The cost of the non-credit course is $99.
