Fire causes $100K in damages to KCK four-plex

An electrical fire at a four-plex in Kansas City, Kan., caused $100,000 worth of damage, but did not injure anyone.

Kansas City, Kan., firefighters responded to the scene of a fire at 1420 N. 55th Drive just after 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 10.

The cause of the fire was electrical. Following the fire, the American Red Cross was called in to assist three adults and three children.

No one was hurt.

Full statement from Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department Battalion Chief Craig Duke:
Crews on the scene within 3 minutes reported light smoke found in one unit of a four-plex. Crews found no active fire. Thermal imaging cameras located heat in the walls. Crews removed sheet-rock from walls to locate fire. BPU called to shut off utilities to structure. Electrical short into building had damaged all electrical wiring in building. Fire Investigator responded to scene. Estimated damage to building $100,000. Fire was electrical in nature. Red Cross was called to assist 3 adults and 3 children. No injuries were reported.
