Winter storm warning issued for Kansas City


The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Wyandotte County and surrounding counties.

The warning will last from 7 p.m. Saturday night to 7 p.m. Sunday evening.

According to the latest forecast, the Kansas City metro area could see somewhere between 6 to 9 inches of snow during the next 24 hours.

Full forecast from the National Weather Service:
* TIMING...PRECIPITATION WILL SPREAD ACROSS THE METROPOLITAN AREA FROM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST THIS AFTERNOON. TEMPERATURES AT THE ONSET OF PRECIPITATION HOWEVER WILL BE TOO WARM TO SUPPORT ACCUMULATING SNOW DURING THE DAYLIGHT HOURS. ACCUMULATING SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN THIS EVENING WITH THE HEAVIEST SNOW FALLING LATE TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING. SNOW IS EXPECTED TO TAPER OFF SUNDAY EVENING FROM WEST TO EAST.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS BETWEEN 6 TO 9 INCHES.

* IMPACTS...SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE ON ROADS BEGINNING LATE SATURDAY NIGHT CAUSING ROADS TO BECOME SNOW PACKED AND SLICK. SNOWFALL MAY ALSO REDUCE VISIBILITY AT TIMES PRODUCING HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.
