WEATHER: Wyandotte County could see largest snow storm this winter on Saturday

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- The National Weather Service is predicting a significant snow-fall event for Wyandotte County and the rest of the Kansas City metro area this Saturday. 

An early forecast predicts 3-to-6 inches of snow for Kansas City on Saturday.

Bitter cold will stick with us into Friday before temperatures moderate over the weekend, but with warmer temperatures will come snow.  

Expect snowfall to arrive in eastern Kansas and far western Missouri some time Saturday morning, spreading across the rest of Missouri through Saturday afternoon. This could be a long event, but snow should start to taper off by Sunday morning with all the snowfall moving to our east by Sunday night.  

Current forecast totals range as high as 3 to 6 inches due the expected length of time over which the snow will occur across Kansas and northern Missouri.  

More precipitation will be possible Monday night into Tuesday; and with warming temperatures we expect any precipitation by Tuesday to be all liquid rain.

Kansas Division of Emergency Management urges Kansans to be prepared for winter storm this weekend

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- With a new round of winter storms set to enter the state late Thursday, the Kansas Division of Emergency Management is again urging Kansans to make sure they are prepared.

“The National Weather Service is forecasting, widespread accumulating snow likely by late Sunday,” said Angee Morgan, deputy director of KDEM.

Morgan said snowfall accumulation will vary from 1-3 inches in some areas to about 4-6 inches in other areas. She added there is even a potential for higher amounts if a heavy snow band develops early Sunday, but development of this band is uncertain.

Winter Weather Advisory issued for Wyandotte County

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Wyandotte County and the entire Kansas City metro area. 

Around 1-3 inches of snow is expected for the area.

WEATHER: No snow in the forecast for Christmas

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- Those Kansas City residents who are dreaming of a White Christmas will have to keep dreaming according to the National Weather Service.

There's no snow in the forecast to begin the week. 

TRAFFIC: Accident reported on Interstate 635 near State Avenue

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- The snow is starting to make an impact on traffic in the Kansas City metro area.

A car accident has been reported on northbound Interstate 635 near State Avenue. The accident happened at around 1:45 a.m. early Thursday morning.

No word if there are injuries.

Currently, the center lane is closed. Clearance time is expected around 2:30 a.m.

WEATHER: New National Weather Service forecast calls for 2-4 inches of snow

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- The National Weather Service is forecasting more snow for the Kansas City metro area.

Originally predicting a 1-2 inch snow "storm," the new forecast map has shifted the stronger parts of the storm east.

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- Wyandotte County may have its first measurable snow accumulation by Wednesday night.

Winter storm warning issued for Wyandotte County

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- A winter storm warning will be in effect from 6 p.m. tonight to midnight on Sunday.

The National Weather Service is now forecasting 5 to 8 inches of snow through Sunday evening.

National Weather Service: Wyandotte County received 7.5-11 inches of snow

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- Depending on where you live in Wyandotte County, you saw between 7.5 and 11 inches of snow.

Most of the country, according to the National Weather Service's map above, generally received at least nine inches of snow. The geographical heart of Wyandotte County was hit hardest, as some areas received over 11 inches.

The "weakest" part of the storm was to the west. Northwest Wyandotte County received 7.5 inches of snow.

At this hour, plowers are still going across Wyandotte County.

UG, BPU to open later on Wednesday

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- While school will be out across Wyandotte County on Wednesday, the Unified Government and Board of Utilities will re-open for business. 

Both the UG and BPU will have a delayed opening tomorrow. Both offices will open at 10 a.m.

Here are more openings and closings tomorrow in relation to the UG and BPU:

Unified Government offices will open to the public tomorrow morning, Wednesday, February 5th at 10:00 a.m. This delayed opening will provided City personnel time to focus on clearing parking lots and sidewalks for safe entry into government office buildings.

The Board of Public Utilities has also announced a delayed opening. The lobby is scheduled to open for business at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The Wyandotte County District Court and all District Court offices will remain closed on Wednesday.

Municipal Court is schedule to open at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. All hearings for tickets or fines scheduled for the afternoon docket will be handled during this time.  All hearings scheduled for the morning docket, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., will be handle the same time the following Wednesday, February 12th.

The KCATA and Unified Government Transit will begin running routes at 10:30 a.m. in Kansas City, Kansas only.

Monday night weather update: 10 inches now possible

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- The latest weather forecast from the National Weather Service now predicts more snow for Kansas City.

Earlier on Monday, the forecast was for 6-8 inches of snow. Now, parts of Kansas City could see over 10 inches of snow.

According to the National Weather Service, the strongest snow will be from the mid-morning hours to the afternoon hours.

Snow will eventually end late on Tuesday.

After the snow exits, the cold enters. Wind chills could be as low as 25 degrees below zero on Thursday morning.

TRAFFIC: Kansas Highway Patrol announces winter storm traffic information

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- Prior to the forecasted snow event slated for tonight and tomorrow in much of the state, the Kansas Highway Patrol and  Troop A personnel, would like to advise the public of the following information.

Beginning at 6:00 p.m. today, February 3rd, 2014, the Kansas Highway Patrol will be towing vehicles abandoned on:

• I-70 from 18th Street to the state line
• I-435 from the state line to state line
• I-635 from I-35 to the state line
• I-35 from the Gardner Road to the state line

This tow alert will also pertain to all other state, federal, and US highways within Johnson and Wyandotte Co.

This process will be in until all the roadways are clear from this event and traffic is flowing normally. The purpose for the towing of the abandoned vehicles is to facilitate snow removal and keep the roadway open for emergency vehicles.

The normal, 48-hour grace period will not be in effect during this snow event.

The Kansas Highway Patrol strongly urges individuals to stay in their vehicles if they get stuck or become involved in a collision, and to call 911 or *47 (*HP) on their cell phones.

The safest place for vehicle occupants during a snow event is inside their vehicles with their seatbelts on.

Winter Storm Watch issued for Wyandotte County

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- The biggest snow storm of the 2013-14 winter is on its way.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Wyandotte County and the Kansas City metro area.

Between 6-8 inches of snow are predicted for Kansas City Tuesday.

According to the NWS, the drive to work on Tuesday will be fine. However, coming home will be most difficult if the forecast holds.

1) If you don't get rid of the ice from your sidewalk and driveway today, get used to it because it will be there for a while.

2) Unlike past storms this winter, this one will be all snow. No wintry mix.

3) Your morning commute likely won't be bad on Tuesday. However, getting back home WILL be dangerous and prove difficult. Plan accordingly.

4) It WILL snow in our forecast area. The past graphics we've sent out for snowfall totals still look good. The forecasters have begun analyzing the newest data that has and will be coming in this morning. We will make minor edits during the day today, but we don't expect any major changes.

One-to-two inches of snow reported in Wyandotte County

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- According to the National Weather Service, between one to two inches of snow fell in Wyandotte County on New Year's Day.

Now that the snow is gone, Kansas City will have to worry about low temperatures.

The high temperature for Thursday is only expected to hit 13 degrees, with a low of 1 degree.

Temperatures will "warm" back up by Friday, as 32 degrees is the reported high.

The National Weather Service also expects another snowstorm to hit the area this weekend. Specific forecasts numbers are unknown at this point.

Winter Weather Advisory issued for Wyandotte County

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- Just as the snow completely melts off from an earlier winter storm, Old Man Winter could soon be making another appearance in Wyandotte County.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Kansas City. The advisory lasts from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning.

* TIMING...LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED TO START FALLING BY 3 PM OR SHORTLY THEREAFTER ON WEDNESDAY. THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL LIKELY FALL BETWEEN 4 PM AND MIDNIGHT WEDNESDAY NIGHT. BY 6 AM THURSDAY MORNING EXPECT WIDESPREAD SNOW TO COME TO AN END.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...WIDESPREAD 2 TO 4 INCHES

* IMPACTS... WINDS WILL BE OUT OF THE NORTH AT 15 MPH GUSTING UP TO 30 MPH THROUGH THE DAY. THIS WILL CAUSE VISIBILITY ISSUES AS WELL AS DRIFTING OF SNOW.

Snow amounts vary in Wyandotte County

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- Depending on where you live in Wyandotte County, you could have received between one inch and five inches of snow.

The heaviest snow amounts fell in northwestern Wyandotte County, as the largest portion of the storm was to the north of the county.

The smallest amounts were reported in southern and southeastern Wyandotte County.

An official measurement conducted by the National Weather Service indicated that three inches of snow fell in Bonner Springs, Kan.

Up to eight inches of snow possible this weekend

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- After last year produced three historic winter storms for Kansas City, it appears the first significant snow-storm is on the way for the 2013-2014 winter. 

A Winter Storm watch has been issued for the entire Kansas City metro area. 

According to the National Weather Service, between 4-8 inches of snow is expected to fall during the weekend in Kansas City. 

Full forecast:

A potent winter storm is still on track to impact most of the area on Saturday and Saturday night, affecting holiday and weekend travel. Currently we are still expecting large accumulations of ice and snow for almost the entire eastern Kansas and western/northern/central Missouri region.

The best chance for freezing rain will be between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. through most of the area, before it switches over to snow around 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Heaviest snow will likely be between 9 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday. Widespread 4 to 6 inch amounts are expected, with some localized areas of 6 to 8 inches of snow. Expect the snow to come to an end by noon on Sunday.

It's May 2 and snow is in the forecast

For the first time since Teddy Roosevelt was president, Kansas City could see over an inch of snow in early May.

The record for snowfall in early May is 1.7" - the National Weather Service is predicting one to three inches of snow tonight into Friday morning.

Kansas City makes more weather history after storm

After having two of its largest snowstorms in metro history last month, Kansas City made more weather history over the weekend.

Between 6-10 inches of snow fell across the metro.

According to the National Weather Service, it was one of the 10 largest "spring" snowstorms in the history of Kansas City.

The largest portion of the storm fell just south of Wyandotte County, with multiple locations in Olathe reporting 9-10 inches of snow. An official count in Bonner Springs was six inches.

Winter storm warning issued for Kansas City

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Wyandotte County and surrounding counties.

The warning will last from 7 p.m. Saturday night to 7 p.m. Sunday evening.

According to the latest forecast, the Kansas City metro area could see somewhere between 6 to 9 inches of snow during the next 24 hours.
