Haley to host second annual WyCo Youth Policy Debate

Senator David Haley, D-Kansas City, will host the Second Annual Senator Haley WyCO Youth Policy Debate on Saturday, May 11, 2013, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Kansas City Kansas Community College Performing Arts Center.

“This structured debate event began in 2012 as a way to encourage political awareness and active citizenry in Wyandotte County Youth,” said Haley. “The event allows teens an opportunity to articulate their societal concerns and youthful perspective with a unique opportunity to ‘think on their feet’ and be heard by a community audience.”

The event is open to all students attending the five high schools of USD 500 (J.C. Harmon High School; F.L. Schlagle High School; Sumner Academy of Arts & Sciences; Washington High School; and Wyandotte High School). No experience is required. Students may participate as beginners or experienced and can debate individually or in a duo. Cash prizes are awarded to the top debaters.

Following the debates, Senator Haley will give an update on recent issues in the 2013 Kansas Legislature.

Senator Haley represents the 4th Senate District, which includes parts of Wyandotte County.
