Adventures in Learning to be held Friday, June 21 at Grace Lutheran

Adventures in Learning, a program of the Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, Kan.,, will take place on Friday, June 21 at our new location at Grace Lutheran, 3333 Wood Avenue.

The building offers entry-level parking and easy drop off of both people and equipment. Everyone is welcome to attend part or all of the day’s activities.

The schedule for Friday, June 21 is:

9:00—10:00 a.m. Health Screenings (no cost)
Blood sugar and blood pressure checks provided by Delores Homes LLC.

9:00—10:00 Registration and Fellowship
Refreshments available while you meet & greet.

10:00—10:50 Workshops (choose one)
Issues Forum: Robert D. Roddy, P.E., Director, Public Works Department, Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.

11:00 - 11:50 a.m. Workshops (choose one)
Health: Training: The new Hands Only CPR – Kansas City Kansas Fire Department
History: Profile of 1863, Presentation by Ed Shutt, Local Historian

12:00 Noon: Lunch—$4 or may bring your own
Menu: Chicken patty with bun, potatoes Obrien, broccoli, and tropical fruit mix for dessert.

12:30 p.m. Program

Presiding: Norma Jacob, Co-Chair, Adventures in Learning Program Planning Committee
Invocation: Rev. Cynthia Smart, Mason Memorial United Methodist Church

Program: Joe Vaughan, local historian and business owner of Joe Vaughan Associates will discuss his latest pictorial book “Images of America: Kansas City, Kansas 1804- 2012.” Books will be available for purchase.

Designed to celebrate and engage older adults, Adventures in Learning has been providing enrichment, fellowship and a noon meal for more than 27 years in Wyandotte County.

Adventures in Learning provides free morning health screenings, selections of informational and educational workshops, and lunch with an entertaining program.

These monthly programs are free and everyone is welcome to attend; join in one workshop or stay for the entire program. Lunch is served at noon for $4. Please call the Shepherd’s Center office at 913-281-8908 for more information.
