Public hearing Thursday for Downtown Hotel CID proposal

The Unified Government Board of Commissioners will be holding a public hearing tomorrow in regards to a proposed community improvement district for downtown Kansas City, Kan.

A two-percent CID sales tax is being proposed for a district between 5th Street and 6th Street from Minnesota Avenue to State Avenue.

The sales tax, expected to generate $75,000 annually, would be used for maintenance of the downtown Hilton Garden Inn hotel and the neighboring Jack Reardon Convention Center.

The cost of all the projects would be just over $3.2 million. Should the CID be eventually approved, the tax would begin on Oct. 1, 2013.
